TRUMP JUDGES CONTINUE ATTACKS ON ABORTION ACCESS

(April 13, 2023) — Last night, two Trump-appointed judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit partially stayed an extreme district court decision overturning longstanding Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of an abortion medication, mifepristone, but declined to stay rollbacks of other FDA actions that had expanded access to the medication. In response, Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet:

“Let’s call this what it is: activists in MAGA hats and black robes substituting their political and religious views for the expertise of doctors and scientists. This is the future the Supreme Court created when they overturned Roe, and it’s only going to get worse. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you’re serious about protecting access to abortion and Americans’ freedom to make their own medical decisions, you have to support serious, structural reform of the Supreme Court. Otherwise it’s just talk.”
